A project by Halina Kliem
Ballona Waachnga is a photographic and film-based exploration of the Ballona Wetlands, the last remaining wetland in Los Angeles. The project delves into the ways in which humans and other-than-human beings perceive their surroundings and experience time. It highlights the unique ecosystem of the Ballona Wetlands, a place where freshwater and saltwater mix, creating a rich and diverse environment.
The project was exhibited at Floating University Berlin in 2022.
The ancestral Tongva people called the wetlands Waachnga or Pwinukipar, meaning “full of water.”
